Collin County IDPA would like to invite you to join us for a special evening learning about and experiencing first hand the action shooting sport organized by the International Defensive Pistol Association. Open to novice and expert shooters, participation in IDPA matches will help you develop and maintain practical defensive shooting skills as well as reinforce safety habits essential to all shooting sports. This class will be taught and the shooting supervised by a certified IDPA Chief Safety Officer.

Safety is our number one priority and is the first topic covered in the classroom portion of your first time participating with our club, whether at this intro class or your first CCIDPA match. You will learn the safety rules and commands everyone follows at a match. All newcomers are usually required to attend a safety briefing, but after attending this intro class, you should be all set to shoot your first match!

Having fun is our second priority, so in addition to safety, the class covers the rules of the sport. You can follow the link below to see the official rule book and match admin guide on the IDPA.com website. In the class we distill the rules to the essential information needed to get started, but most members will admit much of what we’ve learned about the sport came from penalties assessed during our first matches! While we don’t obsess about rules at club matches, we do make every effort to be prepared for major matches.

An IDPA stage usually consists of several full-sized silhouette “threat” and “non-threat” targets arrayed behind walls and barricades. Shooting takes place from one or more positions, most from behind cover, and reloading is routinely necessary to complete a string of fire. Each stage is timed and your score is adjusted based on accuracy and penalties. This intro class includes a practice stage for participants to shoot so you can get a first hand feel for how matches are run.

IDPA supports several divisions covering a wide range of revolvers, semi-auto handguns and pistol caliber carbines. In addition to eye and ear protection, a gun, hip holster, four magazines, two mag carriers and a “concealment garment” describes the typical semi- auto equipment needed to participate. Explore the links below to find out about detailed equipment requirements.

There is no age limit for participation, though we do need a parent or guardian to accompany anyone under 18.

Monthly Cost: $50 per participant (your next CCIDPA club match is free!)
